Understanding what is Cellulitis Treatments
Most of us are aware that there are several kinds of skin infections and one of them is cellulitis. This infection is characterized by invasion of the skin with harmful bacteria such as the gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and the other one is Streptococcus pyogenes. Another harmful bacterium, the Haemophilus influenzea type B; also causes cellulitis. The bacterial infection can be up to the deepest layers of the skin, spreading from the dermis and extends up to the muscles in some people. When it goes even deeper into the bloodstream, this will cause the spread of the infection into other parts of the body.
Cellulitis skin infection may occur in any part of the body but it commonly occurs in the face or neck of infants and children while adults get infected commonly in the legs or lower extremities. The types of cellulitis are named after the area where the infection is localized such as cellulitis of the neck, cellulitis of the face, cellulitis of the eye, cellulitis of the arms, cellulitis of the breast, and cellulitis in the feet. When cellulitis infections becomes unilateral; it means localized on either left side of the body or the opposite right side.
The infection is spread as it enters openings and pores of the skin like cuts, wounds, insect or animal bites, and even tattoos or other openings on the surface of the skin. It is for this reason that you are advised to clean a wound properly or use disinfectant in washing an opening in the skin to prevent the entry of such bacteria as soon as possible.
Cellulitis infection begins with the symptoms of a tender area, developing into a reddish streak and eventually swelling of the affected area. Later on, pain is felt as the lymph nodes near it may begin to infect and swell. As the infection flows to the blood, the individual may experience high fever, undergo chills, will feel soreness of the body and muscles pain, as well as vomiting. In severe cases, skin necrosis, caused by necrotizing bacteria may be included, but the vaccine has already been developed for this and provides an easy cure for the infection. In recent years, cellulitis can now be caused by bacteria which come from pets and from poultry.
The best cellulitis treatment is with the use of antibiotics because it is an infection caused by bacteria. It can be taken orally or intravenously. Mild cases may be treated at home while severe ones should be treated at the hospital.
