People get cellulitis and at times do not know what it is because they do not know the cellulitis symptoms.  Before we look at the symptoms, let’s focus a little on what they are.  Caused by the Staphylococcus bacteria, cellulitis is and infection of the skin.

Cellulitis Symptoms may vary from redness and swelling of the skin to fever, skin tissues being softened, and chills.  Your treatment is decided based on the symptoms you have and the type of cellulitis.  However, it is good news to know that cellulitis can be treated; therefore, knowing the type and symptoms is vital to helping your doctor know what the best treatment available for you is.

Stated below are the various types of cellulitis that you can get:

Cellulitis of the leg, otherwise known as cellulitis of the extremities has a number of symptoms such as tenderness of muscles swelling in the legs and extreme pain caused by the enzymes produced by the bacteria and these symptoms can be transferred to other parts of the body such as your hands and arms.  Leg cellulitis in adults is caused by S. Aureus that can be found in your mouth and your skin.  According to doctors, leg cellulitis is caused by a number of factors such as pregnancy for women, anything that may produce trauma and wounds, such as radiation therapy and other forms of surgeries and cellulitis of the leg may be caused by chemotherapy in some cancer patients.

The next type of cellulitis is Orbital Cellulitis and the cellulitis symptoms stated above are the same in orbital cellulitis, only this time it is found in the eye sockets.  Orbital cellulitis is caused by the Haemophilus Influenza or type B bacteria.  This form of cellulitis is normally found in children, especially if they had previous middle ear, teeth, or face infections before.  If your child should ever get orbital infection, you should have it checked immediately because it might lead trouble with visual clearness and eye movement.

Facial Cellulitis is also another form of cellulitis that causes swollen, tender, itchy, and painful cheeks and if you have fever, this is a sign that the symptoms have gotten bad.  Also if you have these symptoms plus tend to be moody at times, you may very well have facial cellulitis.

There is also cellulitis of the eyelids and external eye areas that is called Periorbital Cellulitis and these cellulitis symptoms may include the eye balls being swollen.  This form of cellulitis is also common among children.

The two other forms of cellulitis include:

  • Breast Cellulitis with cellulitis symptoms such as inflammation and tenderness.
  • Perianal Cellulitis which is found in the anus and is associated with symptoms such as blood in the stool and itching.

Now that you know about the various types of Cellulitis symptoms, if you have any of these symptoms in any of these areas, don’t just disregard it for nothing, have it checked out.
